Perfect for dashboards and build monitors. The 3 series is recommended, as it's the most powerful, and comes with built-in WiFi though both official and off-the-shelf USB WiFi dongles can work equally well. In general, any Class 10 card will work, as they're fast enough and of high enough quality. The Pi needs a 2. This project is a grateful recipient of Futurice Open Source sponsorship. Thank you. This script enables you to display a Trello dashboard with a RaspberryPi after startup. Currently, it supports Raspbian Jessie. At first, you can improve the performance of the RaspberryPi by overclocking its core and expanding the space on the SD-Card.

Open the configuration of the RaspberryPi by executing the following command. Select the option to increase your space on the SD-Card.

I would recommend to overclock the Pi to medium level Mhz. The following command you will install the Epiphany web browser and tools for the kiosk mode and automation of key inputs. Add these lines to the autostart file. For the last line, replace your relative path to your Trello dashboard and the user as well as its password. Reboot your RaspberryPi. It should show your Trello dashboard when it started after around one minute.

I found a 24" old LCD at Goodwill a local thrift shop and bought it but it's been sitting unused in my garage. Then I stumbled on DakBoard.

Raspberry Pi Dashboard Kiosk

The idea is simple - A wifi connected wall display for your photos, calendar, news, weather and to-do. The implementation is simple genius. It's a browser that starts up full screen kiosk mode and just sits there and updates occasionally. DakBoard provides the private webpage and tools to make that happen. You can certainly build this yourself with any number of open source tools. I chose DakBoard because it was simple, beautiful, and I was able to get the whole thing done in less than an hour.

I'm sure I'll spend many hours tweaking it through. There's also the very popular MagicMIrror platform, so lots of choice and power in this space! Someone asked me - "What would I want to put on my dashboard other than a calendar?

I don't see why this is useful. Family Calendar smovie times, temperature, news, my blood sugar, disk free on my NAS, TV schedule, family photos, commute traffic, album releases, homework due soon, family events, trips, flight status, music playing now, literally anything you want as a glance-able display. You'll want to ask yourself, is this just an iPad on the wall? I'd propose not.

In fact, I'd say this is a Wall Mounted Glanceable Display - a personal dashboard - not an interactive thing. I want the family and kids to just stop by, note important information and move on. It's also worth pointing out the a horizontal monitor on the wall looks like, well, a monitor on the wall. But somehow when it's Portrait it's dramatic.

It's not something we are yet used to seeing. I may try this out in a few ways, or even make a few of these displays! It's pretty easy! I used the DakBoard Blog but I had most of the stuff already.

Install Raspbian on the Raspberry Pi. I use Noobs to bootstrap my install as it's super fast and easy. Go through the standard setup. Make sure you've set up:. Then you make sure that Chromium starts up full screen, the mouse is hidden, and we're looking at the dashboard! It's super important you don't have to touch it. It's an appliance, right? Then you can set up a cronjob if you want to turn the Pi's screen on and off on a schedule. This modern version of the wall mounted calendar includes the same basic functions:.

Did you use this instructable in your classroom? Add a Teacher Note to share how you incorporated it into your lesson. The setup is somehow turning the Raspberry Pi into a kiosk. The OS will auto start a website in full screen mode, and the Push Buttons is used to control the information at the website. The setup is:. The webpage is the canvas the Raspberry Pi will display. The canvas can be filled with any information. I will show you how i to embed a google callender.

The embeed code is generate by googles own aplication. Google Calendar have built in keyboard shortcuts. Press N and the next month will appear, press P and the previously month is shown. I have created a JavaScript that ensure that focus is correct.

An example file of html code is attached change name from index. Instead, use the embeed code generated by google. Either put the index. If you already have a webhost continue to the next step. Now save your modifed index. There a many web browser out there. But I have only find one that can handle these three requirements; 1 can handle the modern version of google calendar, 2 has a full screen mode, 3 can run a local CSS.

The local CSS is used to change the appearances of the google calendar.Unfortunately a tight schedule has meant that this project never progressed from the idea stage, until a day or two ago, when I suddenly had a couple of hours free time on my hands From this point there are only 2 simple steps to perform to setup your own dashboard.

Step 1 : Configuring DAKboard. You need to sign up for an account, but the service is completely free. The text was too large, causing it to overlap! A quarter of my 7 inch screens real estate was taken up by menu bars - making my dashboard look amateurish and messy. This line starts Chrome in Kiosk mode each time the Desktop environment starts up - without infobars or warnings. A big advantage with the DAKboard service is that it is so easy to set up.

As it is closed source one is not able to go in and tweak the layout or content. The screen goes into sleep mode after about 10 minutes and can be awakened by tapping on the screen. Feel free to share your experiences and suggestions in the comments below.

In contrast to Raspian Desktop, Raspian Lite has no desktop environment preinstalled and is generally much lighter and smaller in size. This guide is based on the November version of Raspian Raspbian Stretch Litebut it should work for other versions, too.

Boot up the Raspberry Pi, login as user pi with password raspberrythen start sudo raspi-config to apply some initial customizations:. Now reboot the Pi. If everything was done correctly you should end up in a terminal session without having to enter your password. Now with everything in place, we can configure Openbox. Then we allow to quit the X server by pressing Ctrl - Alt - Backspace.

Finally we tell Openbox to start Chromium in kiosk mode. This turns out to be a bit intricate because Chromium loves to show various tool bubbles for session restore etc. The simplest way to avoid all of these seems to be tricking Chromium into thinking it exited cleanly last time it was run see this answer on Super User for details.

After a few seconds Chromium should appear showing the URL you specified. Oh, and as you might have guessed: The -nocursor option tells X to not display any mouse cursor at all. Press Ctrl - Alt - Backspace to quite the X server, bringing you back into the text console. Because we already configured the Pi to autologin the pi user, we can use its. Simply append the following line:. Because autologin uses the first console, this has the desired effect of automatically starting the X server and thus the window manager and thus Chromium on boot.

And you can still use any of the other consoles for logging in manually. We do not only develop web applications, we also care about server setup, operations, and monitoring. Want to know more? UTF-8timezone, and keyboard layout. Make sure to have selected the correct keyboard layout before typing in the new password, though. Network Options: Configure WiFi as needed.

To conclude the initial setup, update all preinstalled packages: 1 2 sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade.
